DynXlab, a brand-new core facility on 4D quantitative X-ray imaging of the University of Antwerp, integrates top quality infrastructure and unique expertise in X-ray imaging for the reconstruction, processing, and analysis of dynamic 3D scenes. It utilizes complementary platforms for 4D X-ray imaging, including an ultra-flexible and multi-modal X-ray CT system (FleXCT) and a stereoscopic high-speed X-ray videography system (3D2YMOX).

DynXlab offers customized services for image acquisition-reconstruction and analysis for both industrial and (in-vivo) biological studies. It allows to explore novel imaging strategies and set up new academic and industrial collaborations. The successful candidate will have a large responsibility in this endeavour.


The position includes the following tasks:

-You support the Department of Physics in developing, analysing, implementing, and evaluating policy, based on your expertise in the assigned domain of X-ray imaging:
-Setting up innovative experiments
-Write reports and provide support in writing manuscripts
-Planning, optimization and acquisition of X-ray scans
-Data analysis and quantification of results (e.g., metrology, porosity quantification, 3D kinematics...)
-Data management and maintaining website
-You are responsible for professional service provision within the domain of X-ray imaging by establishing and maintaining a warm and professional relation with industrial and academic partners.
-In your role, you take instructions and regulations into account with a view to achieving predefined objectives.


-You have a Master degree in the field of Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Biomechanics, Engineering, or equivalent, with experience in X-ray imaging or equivalent competences gained through prior work experience.
-You are proficient in MS Office with strong computer programming (Python/matlab, C++, ...) and instrumentation interface skills (e.g. labview, ophyd, bluesky or equivalents) and knowledge of Linux-based operating systems are desirable.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are critical to planning workflow, supporting user groups, dissemination in peer-reviewed and other publications, presenting findings at meetings, planning and conducting workshops to train new scientific users and students in X-ray imaging and 4D reconstruction, as well as communicating the research and capabilities of DynXlab to a broad audience including non-specialists during outreach activities.
-You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
-You have strong skills in planning and organisation, and you can work independently.
-The capacity to work in an environment with strict safety regulations.
-Hands-on experience with X-ray imaging infrastructure is a plus.
-Affinity to assist with animal experiments is a plus.

-We offer an appointment as a temporary contract for a period of 1 year with the possibility of extension to 3 years after positive evaluation. After another positive evaluation, it can be once more extended to 5 years

-You will receive a gross monthly salary within pay band 7.1-9.1 of the pay scales of the Administrative and Technical Staff. Your entry-level grade (usually grade 7) depends on your relevant professional experience. If you work part time, your salary is calculated proportionally on the basis of your employment percentage.
-You will receive meal vouchers, ecocheques, a group insurance, an income protection insurance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
-We offer flexible working hours.
-You will have 40 days of annual leave and collective leave for 1 week when the university is closed, between Christmas and New Year.
