Full Time Salaried
Project title:

Industrial X-ray imaging operator (f/m)

Description:

FleXCT, a brand-new core facility on quantitative X-ray imaging of the University of Antwerp, has an open position for an X-ray imaging operator. This core facility integrates top quality infrastructure and unique expertise in 3D and 4D X-ray imaging for the reconstruction, processing and analysis of objects using an ultra-flexible and multi-modal X-ray CT system.
FleXCT offers customized services for image acquisition-reconstruction and analysis for both industrial and (in-vivo) biological studies. It allows to explore novel imaging strategies and set up new academic and industrial collaborations. The successful candidate will have a large responsibility in this endeavor.

Tasks:

Your main task is to bridge the gap between experiment design, scanning, reconstruction, and analysis for the core facility and serve as a single point of contact for dynamic X-ray CT related academic and industrial research questions.
• Setup innovative experiments (geometrically non-conventional scanning, 4DCT, phase contrast CT, X-ray reconstruction of moving morphology, …)
• Planning, optimization and acquisition of X-ray scans
• Data analysis and quantification of results (e.g., metrology, porosity quantification, 3D kinematics...)
• Establish and maintain a warm and professional relation with industrial and academic partners
• Write reports and provide support in writing manuscripts
• Data management
• Website maintenance

Qualifications:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are critical to planning workflow, supporting user groups, dissemination in peer-reviewed and other publications, presenting findings at meetings, planning and conducting workshops to train new scientific users and students in X-ray imaging, as well as communicating the research and capabilities of FleXCT to a broad audience including non-specialists during outreach activities.
• The capacity to work in an environment with strict safety regulations.
• Hands-on experience with X-ray imaging infrastructure is a plus.
• Computer programming (Python/matlab, C++, ...) and instrumentation interface skills (e.g. labview, ophyd, bluesky or equivalents) are a plus.
• A Master’s degree will be of added advantage

Labs involved:

imec-Vision Lab (Prof. J. Sijbers & Prof. J. De Beenhouwer): https://visielab.uantwerpen.be/

Our offer:

• A world-class research environment with brand new, state-of-the-art X-ray imaging and computer infrastructure
• A versatile involvement in multidisciplinary research: cooperation with strong academic research and industrial partners
• Additional training and education possibilities.
• A one-year starting position with outlook for a longer term contract after positive evaluation
